20 Easy Energy Saving Tips



Energy saving tips to be more efficient inside and outside of your home.
  1. Change the setting on the hot water heater to 120 degrees.
  2. Insulate the hot water heater tank and piping within 6 feet.
  3. Install a programmable thermostat to automatically regulate the temperature in your home.
  4. Replace filters in the furnace as needed.
  5. Close any vents in rooms that aren't being used.
  6. Open all south facing curtains or blinds early in the morning. This will heat the interior of your house.
  7. Clean behind appliances, check vents for debris and possible blockage to any mechanics.
  8. Clean all registers and baseboards ensuring that none are blocked.
  9. Leave the oven open after cooking.
  10. Always turn off the lights when leaving a room.
  11. Use fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs.
  12. Hang your clothes up to dry instead of using the dryer.
  13. Install low-flow shower heads and faucets.
  14. Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when completely full.
  15. Water the grass early in the morning or after the sun has gone down to avoid evaporation.
  16. Take showers instead of baths.
  17. Turn off the computer and printer if you're not using them.
  18. Use power strips for home entertainment equipment and turn them off when not in use.
  19. Add insulation in the walls and attic.
  20. Caulk or re-caulk the weather stripping around all windows.
